About the webinar

Authentic and timely information in any emergency is a vital resource and its effective utilization can save lives. NHN in collaboration with Pakistan Resilience Partnership has brought the webinar on the topic of "Information Gathering and Dissemination Process in Emergency Response". The presenter briefed the participants on the importance of authentic information and how it should be collected and managed during and Emergency. She also highlighted the information need of stakeholders during preparedness and response phases of a disaster. She pinpointed various challenges and risks involved in information management. She also presented the ethical considerations in information management. At the end of the session a list of authentic information sources was presented.

About the Speaker

Miss Sana Zulfiqar has significant expertise in humanitarian coordination with efforts mainly focusing on negotiating local civil society space in the humanitarian architecture and advocating localization agenda on national and international platforms. She has done M.Sc. in Communication Sciences and has served in different positions for the last 11 years at Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), United Nation Volunteer (UNV), National Health Emergency Preparedness Response Network (NHEPRN), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the National Humanitarian Network (NHN). She was awarded volunteer of the year in 2008 by the Government of Pakistan.

For 7 years, she has worked on keys positions in the National Secretariat of NHN Pakistan and played vital role in streamlining the network operational and strategic coordination; facilitated in development of network contingency, preparedness, advocacy and capacity building plans. On her credits, she conceived, designed and facilitated the first digital resource center (DRC) in-country and region as a one knowledge management window to galvanize communication for the humanitarian sector. She facilitated the development of the first national, sector experts roster titled as Surge Emergency Response Team (SERT) in Pakistan, development of Local Charter of Commitment derived from Charter 4 Change for Pakistan under localization agenda and introduced initiatives to capacitate females of local government and civil society as Women Leadership in Emergency Response

National Humanitarian Network Pakistan

A volunteer network, founded in 2010 in result of interactive dialogue in National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) “to act as an independent and vibrant voice to engage with stakeholders throughout Pakistan for promotion of humanitarian values by influencing policies and building capacities to ensure right based humanitarian response”. 172 humanitarian organizations are members of NHN from across Pakistan and it is open for all national and local organizations engaged in humanitarian assistance or disaster management advocacy.  NHN focus on “Effective and Accountable Humanitarian Governance” – mainly in Response and Disaster Preparedness through four major areas i.e. “Coordination/networking, Advocacy, Capacity Building and Information Management”.

NHN is a key network in Pakistan which is well connected with various stakeholders and demonstrated its effectiveness to do proper advocacy and lobbying for access, space and principled response. NHN supports stakeholders in collecting and timely sharing of critical information for preparedness and response as its members are spread across Pakistan and even in hard to reach areas.
